Editorial policy
Insolvency is a regulated, high-stakes area where a wrong number or a careless statement can cost someone their business or their home, so we hold our content to a high standard. Every guide is grounded in primary UK sources: the Insolvency Service, HMRC, Companies House, The Gazette and the underlying legislation such as the Insolvency Act 1986. We cite those sources inline so you can check them. We do not give regulated insolvency advice; we provide general information and always recommend taking advice from a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner before acting. Our guidance and our calculators are written by our editorial desk and based on those official UK sources, and we update pages when the law or official figures change. Where a figure is the most recent published series rather than a live feed, we say so. If you spot anything you believe is wrong or out of date, please tell us and we will check it promptly.
Our standards
- Primary sources. We cite the Insolvency Service, HMRC, Companies House, The Gazette and the legislation.
- Sourced, not advice. Our guidance and calculator logic are based on the statutory tests and official UK guidance; for your situation, consult a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner.
- Not advice. We provide general information and signpost regulated advice for your specific situation.
- Kept current. We update pages when the law, rates or official statistics change.
- Honest about uncertainty. We label estimates, ranges and most-recent-published figures clearly.
