Cookie policy
We use two analytics tools, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. They only load if you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner. Until you choose, or if you choose "Reject all", neither tool loads, no analytics cookies are set and nothing is sent to Google or Microsoft. We do not run advertising on this site and do not use cookies to build advertising profiles of you. The tables below list what is set, what it is for and how long it lasts.

Before you choose
No cookies are set when you first arrive, and Google Analytics and Clarity do not load. The cookie banner asks you to accept or reject analytics. Three things do run before you choose:
- Our own visit counter. It sets no cookie, but it keeps a small random code (
fleet_vid) in your browser's storage and sends a note of the page you viewed to this site. It is listed in the second table below. - On pages with our enquiry form, such as get help, Cloudflare Turnstile loads from challenges.cloudflare.com. It checks that the form is being used by a person and not a bot. It is needed to protect the form.
- Our record of where you came from (
fleet_attributionandfleet_session). It stays in your browser while you read the site and goes to us only if you send an enquiry, so we can see where the enquiry came from. It is listed in the second table below.
Analytics cookies (only if you accept)
| Cookie | Set by | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics (this site) | Distinguishes one visitor from another so we can count visits. | 400 days |
_ga_9XMRZ8DH9K | Google Analytics (this site) | Keeps track of the current visit (session) for our Google Analytics property. | 400 days |
_clck | Microsoft Clarity (this site) | Stores a Clarity visitor ID and settings so repeat visits are recognised. | 1 year |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity (this site) | Joins the pages you view in one visit into a single Clarity session. | 1 day |
MUID | Microsoft (clarity.ms and bing.com) | Microsoft identifier used by Clarity to recognise the same browser. | About 13 months |
MR, SM, ANONCHK, SRM_B | Microsoft (clarity.ms and bing.com) | Set by Clarity’s data collection service to manage and route the analytics data it receives. | From the end of the visit up to about 13 months |
Google’s and Microsoft’s own policies explain how they handle this data: Google cookie policy and Microsoft privacy statement.
If you accept, we only turn on analytics measurement. Google’s advertising settings stay switched off, because this site runs no ads.
Other storage in your browser
| Name | Where | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
fleet_vid | Local storage | Our own visit counter doesn't use cookies, but it does keep a small random code in your browser's storage. The code is for today only, so a second visit that day is not counted twice, and it goes only to our counter. Turn it off with "Don't count me" at the foot of any page. The law allows this for site statistics without asking first, as long as you can opt out (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, Schedule A1, paragraph 5); see Counting visits in our privacy policy. | Replaced each day |
fleet_first | Local storage | Set by the visit counter only if you arrive from another website or a campaign link. It keeps the name of that website or campaign and the date, with no code or ID, so a later visit can show where you first found us. "Don't count me" deletes it. | Until you clear site data |
fleet_no_count | Local storage | Remembers that you asked not to be counted. It stays in your browser. | Until you clear site data |
cookie_consent | Local storage | Remembers whether you chose Accept all or Reject all, so we do not ask on every page. Set only once you make a choice. | Until you change your choice or clear site data |
fleet_attribution | Local storage, set for every visitor | Records how you first and most recently arrived (landing page, referrer and campaign tags), the pages you viewed on this site, and basic device details (browser, screen size, language, time zone). If you send an enquiry, this is attached to it so we can see where it came from. It contains no name or contact details unless you submit the form. | Reset after 30 days, or until you clear site data |
fleet_session | Session storage, set for every visitor | Times the current visit and counts pages viewed, for the record above. | Until you close the tab |
_cltk | Session storage, only if you accept | Microsoft Clarity session data. | Until you close the tab |
If you send an enquiry, it carries the record above, so we can see where it came from. This does not depend on your cookie choice.
Changing your mind or withdrawing consent
You can change your choice at any time using "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. Switching to "Reject all" stops Google Analytics and Clarity, and deletes this site’s analytics cookies. It does not remove the record of where you came from, which clears after 30 days or when you clear this site's data in your browser. Microsoft’s own cookies on clarity.ms and bing.com can only be removed in your browser settings (usually under Privacy, then Cookies and site data), where you can also block cookies for this site.
For how we handle any personal data you submit, see our privacy policy. Questions about cookies can be sent through our contact page.
